What to Do and Where to Dine for Mother's Day in Dutchess

Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 8! Make sure you shower Mom with love and show her just how important she is. From gourmet meals to scenic hikes, there is something for everyone here in Dutchess County. Here are some ideas for how you can celebrate!

Mother's Day at Innisfree Garden, Millbrook

This charming English and Chinese-inspired garden invites you to its Mother’s Day Curators Tour from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Also on Mother’s Day at Innisfree, there will be a daffodil viewing from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Come and enjoy the transcendental beauty of Marion Beck’s daffodils. Some may have been planted as early as 1930, and all were planted before Mrs. Beck’s death in 1959. Every year, these thousands of daffodils, along with the native shadblow, welcome the earliest spring visitors to Innisfree. Pre-registration is required for all garden visits. Apple Blossom Festival at Barton Orchards, Poughquag

Mother’s Day weekend also happens to be the first weekend of the Apple Blossom Festival at Barton Orchards. Each year, apple blossoms emerge at the peak of springtime, peppering the orchard in a dazzling display of white flowers. It is truly a sight to behold! During the festival, there will also be hayrides to take you around the orchard to see the apple blossoms, in addition to live music, a petting zoo, farm market, baked goods, concessions, and tap room. Hikes at Peach Hill Park, Poughkeepsie

If Mom is the outdoorsy type, then why not accompany her on a leisurely stroll? Peach Hill Park in Poughkeepsie park is open from sunrise to sunset, and offers 3.5 miles of scenic hiking trails through a former apple orchard. At 485 feet, the summit of Peach Hill is the highest point in the Town of Poughkeepsie, and the views from the top are magnificent in all directions. Dogs are welcome, too. Ice House Presents: Flores Taqueria, Poughkeepsie

Treat mom to a creative brunch buffet with breathtaking views overlooking the Hudson River. Flores Taqueria prepares a feast on the waterfront from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Flores Taqueria is located at the historic Poughkeepsie Ice House. The buffet menu includes traditional brunch fare, along with gourmet Spanish-inspired entrees like smoked prime rib, rosemary roasted turkey, seafood paella, salmon, and several children’s options. Imagine, if you, a traditional brunch menu with all sorts of gourmet twists. That’s what McKinney and Doyle has to offer at its Sunday brunch from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. From the Maine Lobster Chilaquiles (semi-crunchy corn tortillas, salsa verde, radish, tender lobster meat avocado, poached eggs, chipotle hollandaise and cotija cheese) to the Chipotle bison burger (caramelized onions, maple slab bacon, avocado, garlic aioli, pretzel bun and sweet fries on the side), there is something for everyone. Of course, there's plenty of omelets, pancakes and French toast to go around. Another Beacon hotspot, Melzingah Tap House is an ideal gathering place for craft beer enthusiasts, cocktail connoisseurs and food fanatics alike. In addition to their traditional brunch menu, they will offer several Mother’s Day specials, including roasted asparagus salad, beet and goat cheese salad, Nutella-stuffed crepes, and lamb Bolognese. Revel 32°, Poughkeepsie

Chef Brandon Walker of Essie’s will serve a delicious, four-course Mother’s Day brunch at Revel 32°, and all mom will receives a complementary beverage. Local crooner Michael Dell will perform popular music to enhance the dining experience. The Tavern at the Beekman Arms is hosting a bountiful Mother’s Day buffet from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The early part of the day will feature a brunch buffet with breakfast items, and at 2 p.m., they will switch to a dinner buffet. This elegant Italianate venue organizes a Mother’s Day brunch of its own from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. There will be an assortment of chicken, fish and pasta entrees, along with breakfast dishes, carving stations and a kids buffet table, not to mention an expansive dessert table. Terrapin, Rhinebeck

The dining room will open at 1 p.m. on Mother’s Day at Terrapin in Rhinebeck, and offered will be a prix fixe menu that includes a tapas platter, a choice of more than 10 savory entrees, and the dessert du jour. The entrees include bowtie pasta with sweet sausage, garlic, cream, tomatoes and broccoli rabe, and asiago cheese-crusted chicken breasts with a whole-gran mustard sauce. Regular dining room menus will not be available, although children 12 and younger may order off the regular kids menu. Cost is $69 per person excluding beverages. Red Bistro, Terrapin’s more casual dining option, will also be open on a first come, first served basis, serving regular bistro menus.
